Football Fiesta

2010 was a significant year in South Africa! The World Cup offered us the opportunity to showcase our beloved country and share the pride and joy we have in our "Rainbow Nation". St Martin's relished the football frenzy of the second term and offered activities to the children which made sure that they were a meaningful part of the festivities .... Each Friday was Football Friday and for eight glorious weeks we had special extra-mural soccer, soccer puppet shows, all wore soccer garb and distributed amazing World Cup bookmarks to teach the children (and their parents!) about our visitors and the event. The Football Frenzy Evening (with striking, dribbling, heading and diski dancing stations, amongst others, provided a child-friendly social and skills experience), the Outing to the Moses Mabidha Stadium (which finished with the climax of Mr Vusi Mngoma, a member of the staff, doing a bungee jump off the "arch) and the Soccer Sales Tables (with lots of soccer-themed items/footie treats for sale) added to our special events. It was a privilege to honour and get behind our beautiful South Africa for this once-in-a-lifetime event ....
